I think you miss the point if you see "The Passion" as entertainment. I had no love for the scenes of blood and masochism. The point is more to begin to understand how painful his sacrifice was. Can you appreciate that he laid down his life completeley motivated by love and compassion. I concede that there are many who do appreciate more the motivation of a person like Barabas. Those who would sacrifice their lives out a motivation of hatred and with the intent of killing as many people as they can as they blow themselves up in a crowd of people going to work.
