What's up with mirrors?

"Mirrors" are duplicate web sites, usually used to distribute the original web site's data more evenly over the Internet geographically or to provide alternate backups of the web sites pages.

These duplicates, however, can have some problems -- images may get broken and, more importantly, "CGI" scripts (programs that do a lot of fancy things) usually don't work. For better or worse, SITO uses a lot of images and CGI scripts. Oops! This makes mirroring a tricky business for SITO.

SITO Mirrorization!

We are currently setting up a mirror of SITO at http://www.ibiblio.org/sito/, thanks to the kind folks who run ibiblio. (Yay!) These are the good folks who used to be Metalab, who, in turn, used to be Sunsite. Phew!

Please pardon our dust at this mirror. It is going to take us a while to get things looking nice there, and there will no doubt always be minor problems that are always inherent with mirroring a site as complex and fancy as SITO!

Can you help us mirror?

Do you have a web server with a couple gigs of disk space and a fast connection? Even better: do you have any kinda web server in a non-U.S. location?

If you would like to help us mirror SITO in your area, we (and more importantly, the SITO-viewing public) would really appreciate it! Please, let us know.
