If you'd like to make a non-monetary donation, please see our wishlist below.
Questions about past or future donations can be directed to oed (at) yahoo (dot) com or by leaving us SITO feedback.
Founded in 1993, SITO exists to serve two major purposes. ONE: to provide artists a place to exhibit their work. And TWO: to create and maintain collaborative art projects, such as Gridcosm, that foster not only new art, but new art forms. Using SITO's services and participating in SITO's online art projects is, and always will be, free.
Among SITO's founding principles is that use of the site itself will cost no money. Also, SITO will never accept banner or pop-up advertisements. This is not to say that the curators of the site don't incur costs of hardware, work-hours and bandwidth. Luckily, SITO has had a tremendous benefactor in Novia.net, an Internet Service Provider in Omaha, Nebraska (USA). They have long donated technical assistance, bandwidth and even hardware to the SITO cause. Every artist on SITO owes thanks to Mike, Matt, Rival and everyone else at that fine company.
A vast majority of the curating, design, conception and programming of SITO.org has been done by Ed Stastny and Jon Van Oast. Neither have been paid for their over nine years of dedicated work on the site.
There are things we at SITO need to create new projects and to expand in new directions. We need backup media and hardware, for one thing. Money for promotional materials and to pay our programmers and site-developers is also needed. Our growing wishlist appears at the end of this document.
First ask yourself, how much is SITO worth to you? How often to you enjoy SITO? Has SITO introduced you to new art, ideas and people? Now think about how much you spend on a dine-out meal or a movie or the theatre. Is SITO worth as much as a pizza? Does it reward you as much as a movie and popcorn?
For the more analytical, here's a chart of suggested donations based upon your modes and frequency of SITO-use.
