What is real or not real about the programs you like to watch on TV? It Depends. I mean some programs are real. A lot of people had a lot to say about the Cosby Show. They thought it wasn't real. But there are doctors who are married to women who are lawyers and who have children, and they are happy, and they live in functional households. So that's real. Many people felt it wasn't real. But in our community, in the black community, there are families that are like that. And there are families that are like that, the husband is not a doctor and the wife is not a lawyer, they're working people, and they do have functional households where there is love and understanding and kindness. So a lot of the shows are real. It really depends on what you're watching. I think there's more realism than we want to possibly believe. That might be frightening for us to believe, that maybe they are portraying something that's real.

What about violence on TV? Oh, I think there's too much violence on TV against women and children. I actually think there's just too much. It's ridiculous. And I get tired of seeing that.

What do you think about men on TV? Well, I have to tell you the truth. I love to see black men on TV. I love, I think that men have, they get a greater range. They could be the good guy, the bad guy. They don't have to take off their clothes to be appealing. I think that just men have a greater range of roles that they can play and they're viewed in a different way.

What would you want to have change on television? I certainly would concentrate on the kinds of shows that are shown during primetime when young people are watching. I would certainly curtail the sexual and violent programs; I just think that's just too much. And I would definitely see that we have more diversity, that we would have more programs on all channels, to satisfyä I mean, all my life I've seen caucasions on TV, and I think all somebody else's life they should be able to see, you know, people of color. I think that it's somethingä it's 1996, it's time that we do balance that out. And I would change and make sure that we would have cultural diversity on television.
