| Do you think television portrays things the way they are today? | No. I think television portrays what they have been taught to portray. And that is
the bottom line. Making money. Dollars, etc. Television will go in any direction
necessary to make money. |
| Are there any TV shows from years ago that you thought were especially good? | I remember a very violent show in the fifties where men used to fight with their
fists. This was the good guy against the bad guy. Nobody had a gun. It was Have Gun,
Will Travel. But he never used the gun. He always used his fists. Or he used his
head in order to avoid using the violence, even though he did occasionally. So the
Have Gun, Will Travel routine was only using the gun as a means of getting the viewer
to watch, though he never really used that gun very often, if ever, I can remember.
But he was one heck of a fighter. Yes, I remember things like that. Leave it to Beaver, of course, was a classic. There are a number of really good shows of the past. Unfortunately, the younger generation has not had the opportunity to realize, not only the effectiveness of shows like that, but what they can do for the psyche of the younger generation, because the psyche of the younger generation is portrayed as being violent, criminal, bad, no good, coke addicted, etc., and I'm sure most of the kids of today are not like that. |
| What would you like to see on television today? | To me, if we can create a television atmosphere for other people to enjoy without
the blood and guts, but just with good thinking, I believe that would make a tremendous
change in our programming. I'm hoping some day that will take place. ( top ) |
