When you're watching a show that you like, are there qualities in the characters that you relate to? That's one of the reasons why I'm attracted to science fiction. Because even though they do have costumes, make up and masks that basically distort their image, their personality, they still have human qualities. And the thing I like about it, for instance, in the Star Trek series, is each race of beings represents a lot of human qualities and traits. Like, for instance, the Ferangis, always business minded. It's all about monetary status and things of that nature. Whereas the Klingons consider them war-like, but I don't, but I consider them very honorable people. So each race represents a lot within humanity. And I like the shows because they do that.

Are there any shows in particular that do a bad job of showing how different races relate to one another? Cops and the spin-off type shows where you have officers of the law battling crimes on the street, and it's put on television for entertainment purposes. I have a big problem with those simply because a lot of the things that they show are negative human qualities, and not everybody who's on film at that time is negative. I think they depict people, especially interracial relations very negative. And I don't recomend anybody to watch them.

Do you think those programs show situations, such as busting somebody, accurately, or are they playing them up. If you ever watch the shows in its entirety, occasionally you notice that when they have to chase down people, they subliminally leave messages in the form of extra abuse that isn't seen necessarily by the camera. Like one time I witnessed a police officer take a person down. Now they showed the police officer taking the person down, but they didn't necessarily show the police officer shoving his knee in his throat. That's excessively painful for a person in that position. And we don't exactly pick up on that because we're not cued into what that is.

If there was one thing that you could change about television, what would that be? I think the thing they should stop doing is providing programs for money. Like, for instance, people design programs for ratings, because ratings pull in people who want to use commercials and commercials pull in money for everybody. And television uses what sells to get a point across and they use the artistic feel of what the director or the actors may be trying to get across. Television is a tool for entertainment and education, and it should not be a tool for monetary resources or exploitation.
