This was the original call for participation sent out for the OTIS (now SITO) Tarot-card project, Arcana. ################# S Y N E R G Y : A R C A N A ________________________________________ The third in an on-going series of collaboration projects instigated by the OTIS project and it's loyal participants. ---------------------------------------- ARCANA will begin accepting images on November 15th. The goal of the project is to create a deck of Tarot cards in an electronic environment and end up with a large selection of images based upon a presumedly diverse sampling of interpretations. The results of the project will be displayed in the OTIS archives in GIF and JPEG format for all to see. The project will last until there are at least two of each card. Each participant will design whatever cards they wish and submit them to the archives. When the project is complete, all participants will vote on which version of each card is best. This vote will determine which cards will be on permanent display in the OTIS archives and which will be printed on the final deck of real Tarot cards. (pending financial demands of the printing) Again, design whatever and however many cards you wish (you can also create a design for the back of the card, preferably in vertical-symmetry with "SYNERGY:ARCANA" inscribed somewhere). Cards can be created by any means the participant deems necessary, as long as the final image is available in digital graphic format and conforms to the 3x5 ratio requirements. Requirements for participation are as follows: - ability to FTP images to and from the OTIS archives at sunsite.unc.edu ---OR--- ability to UUENCODE images and send them via email ---OR--- willingness to snail-mail entries in on disk or hardcopy - access to image-manipulation software or ability to scan created images into GIF or JPEG format - an imagination To register as a participant in this project, send email to otis-request@cwis.unomaha.edu with the subject of "Arcana". Please include any special restrictions you may have. New participants will be welcome until January 20th. When signing up, you will be assigned an ID number and sent specific instructions. It is recommended, but not required, that you also join the OTIS Mailing List. The list will allow you to interact with other OTIS artists and spectators about techniques, progress and interpretations. If you'd like to join the mailing list as well, state that in the body of your "sign-up" email. A list of existing Tarot cards will be made available via email and FTP from: sunsite.unc.edu /pub/multimedia/pictures/OTIS/ARCANA Popular interpretations of the cards will also be available if all goes well. Anyone with extensive knowledge of TAROT is invited to donate their opinions and knowledge.
