Description:
Pencil on Oslo paper, using cross-hatching and smudging techniques. The person on the upper left cajoles the not-so-happy woman who appears to be giving a "cold shoulder". Years ago, I did a similar artwork after finishing my term paper on the same subject, Tampuhan at Pagtatampo, as a requirement in Sikolohiyang Filipino at the University of the Philippines.

Tampo refers to a Filipino cultural behavior in which one withdraws affection from a person who has hurt (often unknowingly or inadvertently) one's feelings. The behavior is deeply rooted in the Filipino culture and the term has no English translation, though "sulking" or "to be sullenly aloof or withdrawn, as in silent resentment or protest" is often considered a close equivalent.

Non-Filipinos, especially Europeans, Americans, and Australians, find "tampo" strange and difficult to grasp, though among Filipinos, it is a common and a very much accepted behavior. The basic expectation of one who engages in tampo is for the offending party to woo or cajole him or her out of the feeling of being unhappy (that is, "amuhin" or "suyuin").
