This altered birdhouse has a story.

Recently, when I was in San Francisco�s Chinatown, I encountered a tourist family that consisted of a man and woman and their two teenagers. They were rudely making fun of the Chinese residents there, pointing at them, taking flash pictures in their faces and making all kinds of rude comments about the merchandise in the stores and the food and what have you. Their language was laced with racism, referring to �chinks� and �slant eyes�...saying that there was no difference between Koreans, Chinese and Japanese. �They all look alike�.

At one point, their daughter said she was hungry and the father bellowed , �Want to go to the Fong-Fong Cookie house?� (No such place exists.) This man inspired this altered bird house which I have entitled the �Ignorant Tourist Fong-Fong Cuckoo House�. It has a mixture of elements from different Asian cultures...Chines and Japanese...et al.

The piece is made of wood, metal, paints fibers and paper and measures approximately 5� across at the widest point and approximately 8� tall at the front peek. It is an original, one-of-a-kind item.
