I will not even look at the discourse - sue me - but I think it is part of TCA's known style - blend laterally on his panels and then on adjacent panels 7 times out of ten, totally ignore what would be a challenging blend ( for whatever reason ) by placing up a square, abrupt panel which sometimes appears quite the abomination.

I figure just make more panels and let the funnelling go on. Best remedy :-)
