You've got a definite point there, my guess as to why this happens is: eight people are trying to influence the composition of the entire square which paradoxically results in no composition. Or noone is thinking much about composition at all which leaves the center square as default focus of attention.

However I like examining the 8 unique square levels because, while the composition is sometimes "off", the details are usually great. Like 1518 where RBR and SNY played off the runner in 1517 in cool ways.
