...I wanted to climb up her stick legs and onto her back of warm feathers to nestle inside. But she walked away. Her long legs carried her far and fast away from the commotion of people. She traveled along a rocky road through sand and sun. I wondered if one of her wooden legs might break and send her tumbling to land in road dust.
