Notes on Creating Your SITOme "Bio"
Related\User Settings\IDs, SUE, and you\Search\Index\Contact

You may desire to change the top of your SITOmehelp: SITOme to say lots of good things about you, and look kinda nice, too. This is what the "bio" (biography) section of your SITOme is for. It is a place for freeform commentary by a user about him- or herself.

First, here are some do's and don'ts:

  • Do not repeat information already on your SITOme. A lot of information is already displayed on your page, if you desire it to be -- email address, home page url, copyright info, etc. There is no need to restate this information. In fact, typing it in your bio makes it that much more work to change later, since it is in two (or more) places. Also, keeping information (such as copyright) in its proper place in the user settings helps SITO show that information in other places where it should go.
  • Similarily, do not describe your Artchive images in your bio. There are now special fields for this in the Artchive image editing page. If you have an old SITO bio with these descriptions in them, it is probably a good idea to cut these out of the bio and put them into the corresponding Artchive image pages, since this is where people will see them.
  • Use shorthand references where applicable. See the section below.
  • Be careful with HTML. Simply forgetting to add a </a> or </td> can have disastrous results! Check your SITOme when done and fix it if its broken.

Generally it is a good idea to keep your bio short and focused. You are welcome to make a long, creative bio, but this may distract visitors from ever even finding the things you have done on SITO way down at the bottom of your SITOme! Long rants or wordy anecdotes may be better created elsewhere and linked to. Or, you can simply remind the reader to check out your home page for more info.

Shorthand References
Some commonly referenced information can be put into your bio using special shorthand codes. Supported codes are listed below. Remember that these are simply substituted with their corresponding values, so you will still need to put HTML around them if necessary.
